Infrastructure, Platform & Technical Leadership

Enterprise infrastructure delivery, hands-on technical leadership, and automation - without full-time commitment.

20+ years leading enterprise infrastructure teams

Messy multi-country infrastructure programmes, landed

The work is multi-country infrastructure programmes that have gone sideways: too many stakeholders, too many operating companies, a plan that stopped matching the estate some time ago. I take them on and make them land. Three things make that repeatable.

Observe first

Before anything changes, I establish what the estate actually is: what runs where, who depends on it, and which of the documented processes are still real. Most programmes fail on assumptions inherited from the last one. This is the literal meaning of the company name, and it is the first thing I do.

Automate where it pays

Automation aimed at repeated manual work with a measurable cost, not at a tooling target. That includes AI where it earns its place - code review, test generation, documentation, debugging - and excludes it where a scheduled script is the honest answer.

Leave a team that can run it

The engagement ends with your people operating what was built: runbooks they wrote, alerts they understand, changes they can make without me. Most contractors deliver a technical outcome and leave behind a team that cannot operate it. Capability transfer is part of the delivery, not a handover meeting at the end.

Available as: Fractional CTO, Infrastructure Projects Manager, Technical Operations Leader, Platform Architect.

Delivery model: B2B contracts, remote-first, EU-based.

Why "Observatories"?

The name reflects the approach: observe systems, understand patterns, design interventions that work.

Most infrastructure consulting starts with frameworks. I start with observation.

I watch how teams actually work. I measure what actually happens. I build solutions that fit reality - not process manuals that sit on shelves.

Infrastructure leadership isn't about imposing structure. It's about seeing what's actually happening and building interventions that fit the organization.

That's why it's Observatories. I look first. Then I build.

Where this works - and where it doesn't

I work with organizations at inflection points - when infrastructure must scale, operations are under strain, or AI capability must move from experiment to production.

Ideal Engagements

  • Scale-ups post-Series A/B with infrastructure chaos after rapid growth
  • Enterprises mid-cloud migration needing hands-on leadership to drive completion
  • Companies integrating acquisitions (M&A infrastructure challenges)
  • Organizations moving from AI experimentation to AI-embedded operations
  • Teams stuck in "reactive operations mode" needing operating model redesign

Not a Good Fit

  • Early-stage startups (pre-product-market fit)
  • Organizations looking for "strategy decks" without implementation
  • Very small engineering teams where enterprise-level operating models would be premature
  • Short-term tactical projects (<3 months)

I work best with organizations ready to invest in sustainable infrastructure delivery, not quick fixes.

Engagements

Each engagement described once: what the work was, what it ran on, and what was left behind.

About Nexus Observatories

Nexus Observatories is a one-person consultancy - a registered Polish sole trader. What you engage is one experienced person, directly. No account layer, no bench, no handover to someone junior after the sale.

Where the experience comes from

I spent 20+ years building and scaling infrastructure in complex, international environments - from core systems architecture (Active Directory, VMware, disaster recovery) to modern platform engineering (cloud, containers, service mesh, observability).

Most recently I led Technical Enterprise Application Management at Exact Software for 8+ years, supporting 55,000+ customer accounts and 2,500+ internal users across multiple countries.

Track record:

  • Increased system uptime from 95% to 99.2%
  • Reduced incident resolution time by 30%
  • Maintained zero team turnover over 8 years
  • Delivered enterprise projects (Salesforce, ServiceNow, MuleSoft, ERP stabilizations) without breaking production operations

International experience: UK, Belgium, Netherlands, Poland - managing distributed teams, navigating complex stakeholder environments, and delivering infrastructure projects that scale.

Approach

Evolution over revolution. I build capability through early adopters, prove value with data, and scale what works. No mandates. No process for process's sake. Just sustainable delivery that lasts.
